Is it the fact that they are clean and tidy? Is it their sleek modern lines and stylish look? Or is it because we want to create a space that will bring us into the 21st century?
I’m certain all of these factors play a part, but personally, for me, it’s all about creating a kitchen in which you could eat off the floor.
You know you’ve done it – you’re at a friend’s house, and they say: “Please, feel free to walk around and see the kitchen.” So you do… and moments later, there is food-orientated carnage on every surface!
Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but let’s face it; we all like to see an ultra-modern kitchen layout to dream about the freedom it would give us.
But creating your own Ultra Modern Kitchen Design isn’t as easy as you might think! There are some important things that you need to keep in mind when planning your very own UMKD.
Take the kitchen’s overall size into account.
If you can, make it bigger. It’s more important than you think. After all, if you’re not working in a small space, then you won’t feel hemmed in when cooking; with room to breathe around the hob and sink, you’ll be able to concentrate on getting your cooking perfect.
Make sure your kitchen is efficiently laid out.
It sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people arrange their kitchen layout according to where they think appliances should go, not where they actually are positioned in the room.
Make sure that you have planned the kitchen layout considering storage and functionality.
After all, if you’re spending countless hours in the kitchen preparing and cooking food for your family/friends/parties, then why not make it as comfortable as possible?
And here’s a fun fact. Did you know that having plenty of natural light can also improve your mood? So by making sure that your kitchen design is as light and airy as possible, you could even benefit your health.
Choose kitchen appliances with care.
I know it’s tempting to go for the latest shiny appliance since we spend a lot of time in our kitchen; wouldn’t we like them to look good? But think about function over fashion.
If you’re like me, then your cooking area is your pride and joy.
So let’s make sure that we use appliances that will not only look good in our ultra-modern kitchen design but also actually do what they promise.
For example, a little research into a new cooktop will probably reveal that it has the latest heat distribution technology, meaning that your cooking will be more even.
These days, the hardest decision you will have to make is whether to go for gas or an electric cooktop!
Don’t skimp on storage space.
Okay, so here’s where it starts getting difficult – everyone has a budget. And I’m not suggesting that anyone should begin remodeling a kitchen without thinking about the budget. Still, if you want to create that contemporary kitchen design, storage space will need to be considered.
There are many ways to increase your storage space in the kitchen, whether it’s creating a built-in pantry or building an outdoor storage area for bulk items.
Even simple things like using spice racks or Lazy Susan can help to increase the storage in your modern kitchen.
After all, who wants to find themselves constantly moving things around to make room for cooking utensils?
Make sure the worktops are fitting for you.
I know it sounds silly, but you would be surprised at the number of kitchens that I’ve visited where the countertops were entirely wrong for the kitchen.
Make sure that your kitchen design has plenty of room for your appliances and that the height of both worktops and kitchen units will allow you to do what you need to do.
And finally, although it’s often overlooked, make sure you choose durable materials for all surfaces.
The advantage of Quartz countertops is that they are so easy to clean. Still, more importantly for the busy household, they are also heat resistant, meaning you can keep your food warm while it’s being transferred from the hob to various serving dishes.
Take your kitchen layout cues from Ultra Modern Kitchens abroad.
When I see people placing their appliances in their modern kitchens based on where it looks best and not where they should be positioned for function, then I cringe.
You want your kitchen to look good – but more importantly, you want it to function well too!
So I suggest that when designing your ultra-modern kitchen design, take a leaf out of the book of some of the most modern kitchens on our gallery website page.
Now, while we do love the idea of a cozy diner or a family kitchen, there’s no doubt that some countries know what they’re doing when it comes to ultra-modern cooking areas.
Don’t be afraid to use color!
I was once told that white kitchen cabinets will always look clean, and that’s true, but it doesn’t mean that you have to stick with white.
I know it can be daunting, but if your ultra-modern kitchen design works well, you need color.
The key is to use colors sparingly, and for this, you should look at what’s trending in ultra-modern kitchens abroad.
So, if your idea of the perfect kitchen is all sleek and white with glass surfaces, then go for it – remember that adding splashes of color will bring interest to your design and give it personality.
Tip of the day
If your kitchen is smaller than what you’d like it to be, go for high gloss kitchen cabinets to make it look bigger.
The tile backsplash is boring. Try something new for a change.
Everyone knows how much ultra-modern kitchens love their white – but what about introducing accents of other colors or even going for a modern kitchen backsplash?
We have some great ideas for a kitchen backsplash, such as:
- A sliding backsplash
- Custom backsplash (paneled)
- LED Backsplash
It’s all about the lighting!
A kitchen is a busy room in a home, which means it needs good, bright lighting to allow you to see what you’re doing – no one wants to start cutting up onions and end up slicing a finger instead!
So I suggest that when designing your modern kitchen design, you should prioritize your lighting. If you struggle with shadows in your kitchen, you may want to consider things like downlights or even lighting under wall units.
Of course, there are several of other ways to add light to modern kitchen designs – for example, placing lights above worktops will help create a contemporary accent.
When searching for modern light fixtures in a kitchen, make sure you keep the following in mind:
- Avoid fluorescent lighting for ultra-modern kitchens, as they cause shadows that could be hard to avoid.
- LED lighting is an excellent way of adding a contemporary accent to your modern kitchen design.
- Try out some kitchen pendant lighting if you have an island.
